Tom Stewart joined the WVU Reed College of Media full-time in August 2011; he teaches news reporting courses as well as the Media Ethics and Law course. He previously taught news-writing and other courses as an adjunct instructor at the College of Media.

Prior to becoming an educator, Stewart worked at the Tribune-Review in Greensburg, Pa., where he spent three decades rising through the ranks. He began in 1975 as a part-time reporter and copy editor. He later served as assistant Sunday editor, news editor, Sunday editor and, beginning in 1997, editor of the newspaper.

In 2005, Stewart took early retirement and began a second career in education. He obtained a Master of Science degree in journalism at WVU and later studied English composition at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of Kappa Tau Alpha journalism honor society and was elected in 2008 to Phi Kappa Phi honor society at IUP. He is also a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and advises the College of Media’s SPJ chapter. Stewart received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Pennsylvania State University in 1975.
