About May 2017 Commencement
In May, individual WVU colleges and schools host their own commencement ceremonies. The WVU Reed College of Media’s May Commencement ceremony will be held on:
Friday, May 12, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. at the WVU Coliseum
While the ceremony begins at 9:00 a.m., graduates should arrive by 8:00 a.m. for line-up.
The ceremony includes a processional of graduation candidates and speakers. Graduates are individually recognized and cross the stage as their names are called to shake hands and pause for photos with their program coordinator, the College of Media dean and the WVU presiding officer.
The College of Media invites December 2016 graduates to join their fellow May 2017 graduates in this celebration. As a courtesy, the College also invites prospective August 2017 graduates to participate.
Tickets are not required for this event, and there are no restrictions on the number of guests a graduate may bring. However, students who plan to participate must RSVP for the ceremony. If you did not RSVP for the ceremony, contact Christa Currey immediately at email@example.com.
Applying for Graduation
All graduation candidates should have applied for graduation by March 3, 2017. Please note: Applying for graduation is separate from submitting an RSVP to the ceremony.
If you anticipate graduating in May 2017, you should have completed the online graduation application by March 3, 2017, to ensure an audit was completed before mid-semester courses began. You are only considered a May graduate if you are completing all of your course requirements at the end of the spring semester.
If you anticipated graduating in December 2016 and did not graduate, you should have resubmitted the online application by March 3, 2017. If you are completing your course requirements in the summer term and are therefore an August graduate, you will be notified at a later date to apply for graduation. However, if you plan on participating in the ceremony, you must RSVP.
Diplomas are mailed after all grades are finalized and certified by the WVU Office of the Registrar—approximately three weeks after the ceremony. Graduates will, however, receive a commemorative diploma cover, featuring the seal of the University, as they accept their congratulations.
Please note: Invitation to or participation in the ceremony is not confirmation that the student is certified to graduate. Graduation certification is completed after final semester grades are released.
Parking: Parking will be available in the WVU Coliseum parking lot. Satellite lots with shuttle service will be made available to guests should there be a need for overflow parking.
Outstanding Fines/Fees: Candidates should check with Admissions and Records at (304) 293-2124 to be certain that they do not owe any fines or fees. Outstanding dues may result in a delay in diploma mailing.
Photography: A professional photographer will take photos of graduates as they cross the stage. An email will be sent to the address provided on the photo/name card completed at the ceremony. Graduates will be able to order these photos immediately following the ceremony.
Printed Program: Students who applied for May graduation by the deadline will be listed in the ceremony program. Students who applied after that date may not be included due to printing requirements. Though they are invited to participate in the ceremony, August 2017 graduates will not be included in the May Commencement 2017 program. Their names will be listed in the December Commencement 2017 program.
Accommodations for Guests and Graduates with Disabilities: Guests needing accessibility services may contact WVU’s Office of Accessibility Services at 304-293-6700 to request accommodations.
Graduates needing accessibility services should contact their accessibility services counselor to request accommodations.
More Information: Further details about the graduation ceremony will be sent to graduates via email and eNews throughout the spring semester. Students are also encouraged to follow the College on Facebook and Twitter.
